Having recently inspired both an anime adaptation and a live-action adaptation, Kengo Hanazawa’s UNDER NINJA manga is taking some time off. According to this year’s 18th issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine, the series will be on hiatus until April 28, which is when the combined 22nd/23rd issue hits stands in Japan.
Hanazawa’s manga has been running in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine since 2018, with 14 collected volumes on shelves so far. It previously inspired a TV anime adaptation that aired from October to December 2023, and the live-action film premiered on January 24, 2025.
The English version is published by Denpa, who describe it like this:
UNDER NINJA Plot
After World War II, Allied Command in Japan developed a new agency to help manage terrorism and violence within the Pacific region. The agency was staffed with ninja and they were initially tasked to handle domestic affairs. Eventually that program grew to its current form, managing 20,000 ninja across a range of domestic and international affairs. One of those ninja happens to be Kudo. The seventeen-year-old high school loser is now poised to be the next line of defense against a potential surge in foreign assassins invading Tokyo.
